Meta Deal for Manus Blocked by Beijing. Why AI Start-Up Is a Victim of U.S.-China Tension.
Meta Platforms has been ordered to unwind its acquisition of artificial-intelligence start-up Manus by Chinese authorities. China’s National Development and Reform Commission said Monday that it had ordered the $2.5 billion acquisition be rescinded on national security grounds. Meta didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from Barron’s. A spokesperson for the company said the transaction complied with applicable law and Meta expects an “appropriate resolution,” The Wall Street Journal reported.
