The Consumer Federation of America has filed a class-action complaint against Meta Platforms alleging that the social-media giant has profited âfrom advertising for fraudulent activities on its platforms and misled users about âits efforts to combat the problem. âMeta has knowingly taken steps and adopted policies that pad its bottom line âat the expense of its usersâ safety and well-being,â states the complaint, which was filed Tuesday by CFA, an association of non-profit consumer organizations, in Superior Court in Washington, D.C. It asks for a jury trial and seeks to recover damages for local consumers. The CFA âcomplaint cites previous reporting by â Reuters on internal Meta documents that revealed the scale of scams on Facebook and Instagram.
